Long Biography
Alanna Crouch is a British pianist and composer creating neoclassical, electronic and soundscape music with a strong visual and story-led identity. Music has been part of her life from early childhood: with a piano always in the house, she began picking out cartoon theme songs by ear at around three before starting formal lessons. Her first teacher encouraged improvisation across classical, jazz, pop and film music, giving her the freedom to explore sound as both performer and composer.
Her writing process usually begins with improvisation. She records ideas in Cubase, listens back for the moments that feel alive, and then shapes or transcribes them in Sibelius. Rather than starting with strict structures, she often composes from images, paintings, photographs or emotional scenes, imagining what music might exist behind a picture if it came to life. This gives her work a cinematic quality: intimate piano gestures, quiet tension, memory, atmosphere and a sense of entering another world.
Alanna's background combines early classical training with a growing catalogue of original music and visual storytelling projects. Her CV records her as the youngest candidate to attain ABRSM Grade 5 Jazz Piano, Grade 8 Piano and DipABRSM in Performance, and notes performances at Steinway Hall UK, Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Her project Princess Emma, created during lockdown with her sister Keira writing and illustrating the story while Alanna scored the music, received Best Original Score at the 2021 Imagine Rain Independent Film Awards.
Alongside solo releases and story-led piano projects, Alanna is interested in collaboration, licensing, film, games and music for visual media. She is especially drawn to work where sound can extend an image, painting, character or narrative, and where quiet, reflective music can carry emotional weight without becoming overstated.
